Amy Yang of South Korea won the LPGA Tour Championship in Florida, defeating Japan’s Nasa Hataoka down the stretch.
Yang, 34, of Florida, scored a six-under-par 66 to win by three shots at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples and receive the $2 million first prize. Hataoka had been at the top of the leaderboard since the first round, and he entered Sunday’s round tied for first with Yang after shooting a seven-under-par 65.
Hataoka ultimately blinked when it mattered most in tight back nine shootout with Yang, after playing through the opening 54 holes of the tournament without making a single bogey.
The two women were tied on 25 under headed to the par-three 16th, and it appeared that they would stay tied as Yang missed a long putt for birdie and the sole lead. Hataoka bogeyed after missing a short par putt, leaving Yang one stroke ahead with two holes to play.
