At the Ballon d’Or event in 2022, City won the Club of the Year title. This latest honour follows Pep Guardiola’s team’s historic and record-breaking 2022–2023 campaign, in which they won the Treble.
Throughout the Catalans’ remarkable seven-year Etihad reign, they have become synonymous with brilliance under manager Pep Guardiola’s direction. However, despite his impressive track record of accomplishments, the 2022–2023 season proved to be genuinely exceptional.
First, City won the Premier League for the 2022–2023 season, marking their third straight league victory and fifth in six years under Pep. Not too long afterward, City completed a domestic double by defeating Manchester United 2-1 at Wembley in the inaugural all-Manchester FA Cup final. Seven days later, in early June, City defeated Internazionale of Italy 1-0 in Istanbul to win our first-ever Champions League trophy and, thus, capture the Treble for only the second time in English football history, capping the most spectacular and successful season in the Club’s 129-year history.
