McCarty wins inaugural Black Desert title

Matt McCarty made an impressive impact in his rookie season on the PGA Tour by winning the inaugural Black Desert Championship on Sunday in Ivins, Utah.

Holding the 54-hole lead, McCarty maintained a one-shot advantage as he approached the short par-4 14th hole at Black Desert Resort. A phenomenal tee shot left him with a short eagle putt, extending his lead by three strokes. He finished the round with a 4-under-par 67, bringing his total score to 23-under 261 for the week—three shots ahead of Germany’s Stephan Jaeger, who shot 68.

The 26-year-old left-hander from Arizona secured his spot on the PGA Tour earlier this year by winning three events on the Korn Ferry Tour. This victory, in just his second start of the fall season, earned him a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour.
