At the National Bank Open, Canada’s Milos Raonic defeated America’s Frances Tiafoe in a thrilling first-round battle 6-7 (12), 7-6 (4), and 6-3.
In a first-set tiebreaker that lasted 20 minutes, ninth-seeded Tiafoe defeated the Canuck.
Although Raonic, who was born in neighboring Thornhill, Ontario, won the second set in a tiebreaker and went on to win the match in 2 hours and 44 minutes, it wasn’t without some difficulty.
Raonic has participated in three tournaments after rejoining the ATP Tour in June following a nearly two-year injury hiatus.
In the late match, Canadian Vasek Pospisil was supposed to take on Italian Matteo Arnaldi.
