The addition of silver medallist Tejaswin Shankar to the decathlon adds a fresh shine to the 10-eventer. At the 37th National Games at the Bambolim Athletics Stadium, the 24-year-old Delhi native shattered the one-year meet record.
The night before, the competition in athletics was forced to halt for an hour due to severe rain. Shankar, who currently holds the national records in the decathlon (7666 points, 2023 Asiad) and high jump (2.29m, 2018), set a personal best of 2.17m in this event. He will concentrate on the high jump the next year in preparation for the Olympics in Paris in 2024. He set a new national record in the event in 2018, and he is taken aback by his impressive high leaps in the decathlon.
