Novak Djokovic Fined after Smashing Racket in Wimbledon Final

Novak Djokovic, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, was fined substantially for striking the net post with his racquet during the Wimbledon final match against Carlos Alcaraz.

The incident happened on Sunday during the fifth set of his loss to the 20-year-old Spaniard. Djokovic was frustrated after failing to break Alcaraz’s serve and losing his own service game, so he violently slammed his racket against one of the wooden net poles, leaving a dent.

Umpire Fergus Murphy promptly issued Djokovic a warning for a code violation due to his racket-smashing transgression.

Due to his acts, the seven-time Wimbledon winner was assessed a fine of £6,117, which will be subtracted from his runner-up prize of 1.175 million pounds.

World number one Alcaraz took full advantage of the break to seal a 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 victory after four hours and 42 minutes.
