Olympian Manu Bhaker demonstrated her supremacy in the first Olympic selection trial at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Saturday by shooting 47 out of a possible 50 points in the women’s 25-meter sports pistol final. She scored three fours and seven flawless rounds of five. Her effort was six points over Yang Jin of Korea’s world record. But according to the selection process, Manu, 22, who shot 582 in qualifying, will receive an additional 0.60 point if she wins the final.
Rhythm Sangwan, the event’s world record holder, gave herself some confidence boosts by placing second, ahead of Abhidnya Patil, Simranpreet Kaur Brar, and Esha Singh (585), the top qualifier.
Rhythm would have a lot of catching up to do with Esha Singh and Simranpreet Kaur Brar (583) both hitting huge shots, not to mention Manu. All shooters have the opportunity to exclude their lowest score, though, as there are four scheduled selection trials.
