Red Arrows crowned champions at MTN Super League

Red Arrows, the recent Absa Cup winners, might finally be declared champions of the 2023–24 MTN Super League when league play resumes in Zambia, ending a long wait.

With four rounds left to play, Arrows have a 12-point lead at the top of the table as they head into their first league game in two and a half weeks. This means that even if Kabwe Warriors win by one point, Arrows could still be declared champions if FC Muza or Zesco United, who are in second place, lose their games.

Arrows’ +28 goal difference over Zesco’s +13 and Muza’s +9 is almost as good as an extra point, making them nearly certain to win. However, they will want to confirm it officially.

Kabwe Warriors, in sixth place with not much to play for, have been a tough spot for Arrows recently. Since 2019, Arrows have lost all three visits there (D1 L2), scoring only once in that period.

Zesco hosts Muza, so if Arrows slip up, one of their rivals will be out of the race—or both if they draw.

Zesco was in a strong position to win the league by mid-March, but four draws and a loss in their last five games derailed their challenge. MUZA has also been struggling, losing their last two games. In their previous three meetings, each team has won once and there has been one draw.

The current champions, Power Dynamos, are out of the title race but will try to finish the season strong to build momentum for the next one.
