Selby breaks the record for the most points ever in world snooker final

On Sunday, Mark Selby made history by making the first-ever maximum break of 147 in a global snooker championship match.

After the first day of the Crucible final, the four-time champion is down 9-8 to Belgium’s Luca Brecel, but he still made tournament history.

The first 147 in the competition were compiled by Cliff Thorburn 40 years ago. Selby has already finished the fifteenth and the first in the actual final.

Selby and Kyren Wilson, who had struck 147s in the opening round, split the $50,000 (40,000 pounds) highest break prize money as a result of Selby’s maximum.
