Siegemund & Roger-Vasselin win French Open mixed doubles

At the French Open, Laura Siegemund and Edouard Roger-Vasselin won their first mixed doubles championship together by defeating Desirae Krawczyk and Neal Skupski 6-4, 7-5. This win gave Siegemund of Germany his second mixed doubles Grand Slam title, and for Roger-Vasselin of France, it was his first, making it extra special as it happened in his home country.
For Krawczyk and Skupski, this was their second loss in a row in a Grand Slam final, having previously lost in a match tiebreaker at the Australian Open. In the opening game, Siegemund and Roger-Vasselin broke serve to lead 2-0. Despite some key wins from Krawczyk and Skupski, the German-French pair kept their serve and secured the first set when Siegemund hit a cross-court winner.
In the second set, Siegemund and Roger-Vasselin broke Krawczyk’s serve to love in the third game, taking a 2-1 lead. They used the same tactic at 4-2, putting pressure on Skupski at the net while Krawczyk struggled with her serve.
Even though Krawczyk, a four-time Grand Slam mixed doubles champion, held her serve and Skupski made a winning shot to break serve for the first time in the match, they couldn’t maintain their momentum. Krawczyk missed an easy shot at the net during Skupski’s serve at 4-4, giving Siegemund and Roger-Vasselin the advantage. Despite saving a championship point off the Frenchman’s serve, the American-British duo couldn’t prevent the German-French team from winning the match.
