Sinner downs Djokovic to win Shanghai Masters

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner defeated 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic 7-6 (7/6-3) to win the Shanghai Masters.

Sinner secured a crucial break in the fourth game of the second set to overcome the Serbian star in 1 hour and 37 minutes, preventing Djokovic from achieving his 100th career singles title. In front of an enthusiastic crowd, both players held their serves throughout the first set, with neither conceding a break.

Sinner took control in the tiebreak, breaking Djokovic’s serve on the first point and racing to a 5-1 lead. Although Djokovic fought back, he hit a volley into the net at 6-3, giving Sinner set point. Sinner missed his first opportunity but converted on his second attempt with a strong serve.

The pivotal moment came in the fourth game of the second set, where Sinner reached 40-15 on Djokovic’s serve. Djokovic saved one break point with a powerful ace but couldn’t stop Sinner’s brilliant forehand down the line, giving the Italian the lead.

Sinner then held his nerve to close out the match, sealing his victory with an ace and claiming the title. This win adds to Sinner’s impressive season, in which he has won two Grand Slams and maintained his No. 1 ranking since June.
