TATAIPL 2024: PBKSvRR: A clinical bowling & final flourish from Hetmyer guide Rajasthan to victory

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by three wickets thanks to Shimron Hetmyer (27 n.o., 10b, 1×4, 3×6) holding his composure in the game’s final over.

Arshdeep Singh delivered dot balls and hit a pair of wide yorkers with ten needed off the final over. RR crossed the finish line thanks to three straight sixes from Hetmyer, a double and another six over the fine leg boundary off the next three deliveries.

The match was unexpected from the start as Sam Curran, not Shikhar Dhawan, led the Kings into the toss. Atharva Taide took Dhawan’s place after the latter was ruled out due to a niggle, Curran was told.

The Kings reached 147 for eight thanks to a dismal batting performance. With 14 dot balls, just 38 were scored during the Powerplay. After dropping wicket after wicket, PBKS managed to reach 53 for 4 in 10 overs. PBKS managed to rally with halftime cameos from Jitesh Sharma (29, 24b, 1×4, 2×6), Liam Livingstone (21, 14b, 2×4, 1×6), and Ashutosh Sharma (31, 16b, 1×4, 3×6).
