After a third athlete was provisionally suspended for breaking an anti-doping rule, Inside The Games reported that Ukraine was in danger of losing its allotted spots for Olympic weightlifting at the Paris 2024 Games. In response to Reuters’ request for comment, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), which would determine any such sanction, did not immediately react.
Alina Marushchak, who took first place in the women’s 81 kg division at the 2021 World Championships, was the most recent athlete to get a provisional suspension in March for using Hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic and masking agent that is forbidden by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). At the recently finished European Weightlifting Championships in Armenia, Ukraine took home eight medals, including two golds.
