US OPEN 2023: Djokovic overcomes Daniil to win his record 24th Grand Slam

On Sunday, September 10th, Novak Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final, tying Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles victories during the Open era.

Djokovic defeated the Russian in the final of the 2021 tournament, depriving him of the sought calendar Grand Slam, and avenged that loss by winning 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to win his fourth title at Flushing Meadows. The 36-year-old Serbian superstar now has 22 men’s Slam singles trophies, two more than Rafael Nadal, while Roger Federer is two further back with 20.

Djokovic thanked his parents and his family for their sacrifices over the years when asked what winning 24 Slam titles meant to him. Djokovic was back at the US Open after missing it the year prior because the federal government required foreign visitors to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
