The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has named Vaishali Ramesh Babu, the pride of India in the chess world, a Grand Master. Vaishali is the third Indian woman to achieve Grandmaster status in chess, following Koneru Hampi and Harika Dronavali. Grand Master Ramesh Babu Pragnananda’s sister is Vaishali.
Vaishali’s accomplishment has made the two of them the world’s first siblings to be titled Grandmasters. Vaishali received the Arjuna Award from the nation in January of last year. In 2018, Pragnananda became a Grandmaster at the age of 13.
Vaishali first gained recognition in the world of chess in 2015 when she emerged victorious in the under-14 girls division of the Asian Youth Chess Championship. Later, Vaishali also acquired the title of International Master (IM).
