Jeswin Aldrin qualified for the 2023 World Athletics Championships’ Men’s Long Jump final on Wednesday in Budapest, Hungary, with a best jump of 8.00m.
Jeswin qualified for the final as the last competitor with the 12th-best jump overall in both the “A” and “B” groups. Either the top 12 jumpers or those who reached the automatic qualification mark of 8.15m would advance to the final. Jeswin had just enough of a legal jump on the day—just one—to qualify him for the final.
M Sreeshankar, the only competing Indian, had a poor day and came in 22nd with a best jump of 7.74m.So far at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, Jeswin is the only Indian athlete to have advanced to a final. On Thursday, Jeswin will compete in the long jump final.
