World Indoor Championship 2024: LaFond clinches Dominica’s first world athletics gold medal

Thea LaFond won the triple jump gold medal at the global indoor championships in just two attempts, becoming Dominica’s first world champion in sports. The 29-year-old soared 15.01 metres on her second attempt, the best jump in the globe this year, and was able to pass up her remaining four jumps since victory was almost certain.
Leyanis Perez Hernandez of Cuba won silver with a 14.90, while Ana Peleteiro-Compaore of Spain took bronze with a 14.75.

LaFond’s prior best results included winning the Diamond League in Paris in 2022, as well as silver and bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games.
