Yaroslava Mahuchikh sets record in women’s high jump

Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh set a new world record in the women’s high jump at the Diamond League meet in Paris, serving as the perfect pre-Olympic boost. Just three weeks before the Paris Games, the reigning world champion cleared 2.10 meters.

This achievement surpassed the previous record by 1cm, which was set by Bulgaria’s Stefka Kostadinova in Rome in 1987, making it one of track and field’s longest-standing records. Mahuchikh began the competition at 1.92m and, despite three failed attempts, eventually cleared 2.03m before passing at 2.05m.
