The Sunrisers Eastern Cape crushed Durban’s Super Giants by 89 runs to win their second consecutive SA20 title at Newlands in Cape Town, thanks to an outstanding all-round effort. The Sunrisers did it the hard way in last year’s first edition, sneaking into the playoffs and then winning, but this year they were much more ruthless, finishing first on the log, winning the first qualifier, and then dominating the event with a strong final performance. In the final, their batters did the work up front, scoring 203/4 in 20 overs, with Tristan Stubbs and Tom Abell hitting half century, but it was their great bowling department that followed up with another outstanding performance to blow them away.
The Super Giants chase got off to a dreadful start when Worrall had Quinton de Kock (3) playing on in the third over, while Jansen had Jon Jon Smuts (1) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa for duck, both caught by Patrick Kruger in the fourth, leaving them on 7/3.
Wiaan Mulder awith 38 runs attempted to rebuild with a 56-run fourth wicket stand with Breetzke, but it did not last long after regular wickets by the Sunrisers.
Dwaine Pretorius, 28 off 17, and Junior Dala, 15 off 9, delivered a few late ferocious blows, but Jansen picked up three of the final four wickets to cement the massive victory as they slumped to 115 all out. In the Sunrisers innings, Stubbs hammered an undefeated 56 off 30 balls with four fours and three sixes, while Abell crunched 55 off 34.
