Goosen wins Galleri Classic, claiming first championship in two years

Retief Goosen of South Africa won the Galleri Classic at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, after shooting a final-round 3-under 69.

Goosen, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, has only two PGA Tour Champions victories, the most recent being in March 2022 at the Hoag Classic. Goosen won the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship in 2019. Aside from that, there had been five second-place finishes and 21 top-five results, but no additional hardware. Goosen’s drought was in danger of extending when he entered the final hole tied for the lead with New Zealand’s Steven Alker, and on his second shot, he hit it into the water.

But Alker did the same, and Goosen rallied for par while Alker carded a bogey, handing Goosen the victory. Goosen’s day contained three birdies and no bogeys, including his par save at No. 18.
