Avani Lekhara, first Indian woman to win two gold medals

Avani Lekhara successfully defended her women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 title at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, making her the first Indian woman to win two gold medals in the history of the Games.

She set a new Paralympic record in the final with a score of 249.7, breaking her own previous record of 249.6, which she set three years ago at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. The 22-year-old Indian shooter won the gold medal, beating Republic of Korea’s Lee Yunri, who scored 246.8 to take silver. Her fellow Indian, Mona Agarwal, missed the gold medal round and took bronze with a score of 228.7. These were India’s first two medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

This was also the first time India had two athletes on the podium in the same event at the Paralympic Games.
