At the Asian under-20 athletics championships in Dubai on Wednesday, men’s javelin throwers Deepanshu Sharma and Rohan Yadav won home gold and silver respectively. While Deepanshu’s best throw was 70.29 metres, Rohan, his teammate from Uttar Pradesh State, recorded a best of 70.03 metres.
Priyanshu, a UP native, just missed out on a second gold in the men’s 1500m final as Aitoulghazi of Qatar prevailed. His silver arrived in 3:50.85 seconds. In the men’s discus throw, India’s Ritik (52.23m) won another silver medal. After the heats, Laxita Vinod Sandliea and Tanvi Malik advanced to the women’s 800m final, while Prachi Ankush Devkar placed fourth in the women’s 3000m.
In the women’s 400m, Anushka Dattatray Kumbhar and Sai Sangeetha Dodla advanced to the medal round, and Aman Choudhary, a male quartermiler, also reached the final. Oddly, Aman’s name appeared on the announced Indian team roster just for the 4x400m relay.
