Chennai Super Kings maintained their winning streak in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, defeating Gujarat Titans by 63 runs in the tournament’s seventh match on Tuesday in Chennai.
Earlier, the Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bowl first at Chennai’s M.A Chidambaram Stadium against the Chennai Super Kings, the five-time winners. Rachin Ravindra, a youngster, started his innings well, hitting boundaries on a regular basis in the powerplay.
As he approached the 40s, he pursued an aggressive approach, resulting in a successful stumping by GT keeper Wriddhiman Saha, giving the visitors their first breakthrough.
Ruturaj, who was approaching 40 years old, was also dispatched with an edge off the keeper, thanks to Spencer Johnson’s short pass. But Shivam Dube was able to get started right away, hitting consecutive sixes to open his innings. He maintained his speed even in the final few overs, attacking the bowlers on several occasions.
Shivam Dube reached fifty in record time, but was removed by Rashid Khan as he attempted to go big in the death overs.
However, Sameer Rizvi made a statement on his debut batting in yellow, smashing two maximums off the first three deliveries. Mohit Sharma removed him in the following over, and CSK set a target of 207 runs.
