Jamaica’s first gold in Paris 2024, Roje Stona wins men’s discus gold

In the men’s discus competition in Paris, Roje Stona of Jamaica set an Olympic record with a throw of 70.00 meters. Mykolas Alekna, the world record holder from Lithuania, won silver with 69.97 meters. Matthew Denny of Australia, a former fourth-place finisher in the Olympics and on the global stage, won bronze (69.31m).

Alekna’s second attempt had yielded a better score than the Olympic record. American Ryan Crouser, Stona’s coach, helped him win an unprecedented third straight shot put gold. On his fourth effort, Stona reached the 70-meter mark, which stole the show.
