Australian driver Oscar Piastri won his first Formula One race at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday. His teammate, Lando Norris, gave him back the lead to help McLaren secure a one-two finish.
This great result followed a long and sometimes awkward exchange between the British team and Norris before he finally followed orders to let Piastri back in front.
Piastri started in second place behind pole-sitter Norris and passed him at the first turn. Norris got ahead after a pit-stop strategy that favored him, even though he was behind Piastri. However, Norris eventually listened to the team and allowed Piastri to win. Lewis Hamilton finished third for his 200th career podium.
Points leader Max Verstappen finished fifth behind Charles Leclerc in a Ferrari. Verstappen has now gone three races without a victory but still leads the standings with 265 points to Norris’ 189. Red Bull’s speed advantage has disappeared this summer.
