Rohan Bopanna records 500th career win at Australian Open

The grand old man of Indian tennis, Rohan Bopanna, achieved a significant milestone on a turbulent day at Melbourne Park for both casual tennis fans and those closely following the action for the Indian team at the 2024 Australian Open. Tagged as the second seed in the men’s doubles draw with Matthew Ebden of Australia, the Indian advanced to the second round with a 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(10-2) triumph over James Duckworth and Marc Polmans, marking his 500th career win at the tour level in doubles.  Bopanna and Edben, who advanced to the Tour Finals semifinals in 2023 and went on to win the title in Adelaide in 2024, triumphed in a tense tie-break in their Melbourne first-round match before concluding a two-hour, nine-minute victory in which they hit 39 winners and eight aces.

We look back at the five standout performances of the 24-time tour-level titlist Bopanna’s career as he continues to pursue a maiden men’s doubles Slam and improves his record at the Australian Open, where he has never advanced past the second week.
