Sha’Carri Richardson wins women’s 100m final

Sha’Carri Richardson, the world 100-meter champion, won the 100-meter race at the US athletics trials. This victory gives her a chance to compete in the Olympics and a spot in the Paris Games. Three years ago, she was disqualified from the U.S. Olympic team due to a positive drug test. Richardson won the women’s 100-meter final in 10.71 seconds, with Melissa Jefferson finishing second in 10.80 seconds and Twanisha Terry third in 10.89 seconds.

Although Richardson started the race behind, she quickly caught up and finished with a time that was 0.8 seconds faster than this year’s record. Three years ago, she had won the US trials in 10.86 seconds and seemed set for the Tokyo Olympics, which were delayed because of the pandemic.

However, her hopes for an Olympic gold medal were crushed when she tested positive for marijuana, resulting in a one-month suspension and a ban from the Tokyo Games.
