Siraj blows away SL to gift India 8th Asia Cup title

At the R.Premadasa stadium in Colombo, the Siraj storm destroyed Sri Lanka while the ominous clouds kept away. At the Asia Cup 2023 final, Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 50 runs in 89 minutes thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s impressive opening burst. India won the Asia Cup in style after needing just 37 balls to surpass the lowest team total in the tournament’s four-decade history.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper, looked over the dry pitch just before the toss and called for three spinners. It indicated that Washington Sundar, who had been substituted into the team for the injured Axar Patel, had been given a chance to play. Sundar, though, essentially had no part to play.

Mohammad Siraj was the star of the show and the Sri Lankans had no answer to him. He registered his best ODI figures of 6-21 and also became the first Indian bowler to pick four wickets in an over.

With its seventh victory, India increased its record for the most Asia Cup ODI victories.

Mohammed Siraj and Chaminda Vaas (against BAN, 2003) shared a 16-ball five-for-record to tie the record for the fastest ODI five-wicket haul. In ODI cricket, Siraj ranks 31st overall and fourth among Indian men with a 6 for 21 bowling average.
