In the Indian Premier League on Wednesday, Delhi Capitals defeated Gujarat Titans by four runs after surviving Rashid Khan’s attack in the last over. In yet another thrilling high-scoring IPL match this season, Gujarat concluded at 220-8 after Rashid hit back-to-back boundaries off the first two balls and then a six off the penultimate delivery. Gujarat needed 19 runs off fast bowler Mukesh Kumar’s final six deliveries. Following his automobile accident in late December, Captain Rishabh Pant made a strong comeback to competitive cricket by smashing an unbeaten 88 off 43 balls to lead Delhi to 224-4 in the T20 World Cup. Gujarat won the toss and elected to field first.
When Pant hit Mohit Sharma for 31 runs in the final over of the Delhi innings, the Gujarat fast bowler’s 0-73 costly bowling figures became the most in IPL history.
With a quick 26 off seven balls, Tristan Stubbs made the most runs of any team in the Indian Premier League history off the last 12 balls of the innings with 53 off the last two overs.
In his 100th IPL match, Gujarat captain Shubman Gill was removed cheaply after slicing a catch at mid-off off Anrich Nortje’s third ball. However, impact players Sai Sudharsan and Wriddhiman Saha salvaged the chase with an 82-run partnership between them for the second wicket.
