Deepthi Jeevanji won the women’s T20 400m race at the World Para Athletics Championships 2024, giving India its first gold medal in the event. She set a new world record with her victory. Before this, Deepthi had already set a new Asian record to qualify for the finals and secure her place in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
She broke the previous world record set by American Breanna Clark last year. In the final race, Turkey’s Aysel Onder finished second, and Ecuador’s Lizanshela Angulo came in third.
Deepthi had made headlines by winning her heat race and setting a new Asian record, which got her into the final.
