North Korea won its first Olympic medal in eight years at the Paris Olympics but had to settle for silver after losing to China in mixed doubles table tennis. China, known as the world’s top table tennis team, has won 32 out of 37 gold medals since the sport was added to the Olympics.
Although China didn’t win the mixed doubles title when it debuted three years ago in Tokyo, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha redeemed that by defeating North Korea’s Ri Jong Sik and Kim Kum Yong with scores of 11-6, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5, 7-11, 11-8.
This victory marked China’s first gold in their aim for a table tennis clean sweep in Paris.
