Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo outran Christian Coleman to win the 100m in impressive fashion at the Diamond League meeting in Rome.
Tebogo, who recently became the Olympic 200m champion, finished in 9.87 seconds. The 21-year-old even slowed down and glanced at his competitors before crossing the finish line. Coleman, who didn’t qualify for the US team for the Paris Games, finished second with a time of 9.92 seconds. Paris bronze medallist Fred Kerley came in third at 9.95 seconds.
Marcell Jacobs, the home favorite who won a surprise gold at the delayed Tokyo Games in 2021 and finished fifth in Paris, seemed to struggle, finishing ninth and last with a time of 10.20 seconds.
